Dear
Parents,
Your child will be in my maths group for the next year. To help you give your child support in maths I have outlined some suggestions below. 1. Your child needs to continue to develop their fast recall of multiplication facts and the related division facts. Quick fire questions whenever there is a free moment would give great support. 2. The more children repeat and review things the more it becomes ingrained and remembered. You can support in this process by: a. Talking with your child about what they have done in maths that day or during the week. Ask them to show examples of what they have done, e.g. if they have done addition of decimals ask them to show how they worked it out. b. Our maths group has its own page on the school's website (www.burleyoaks.co.uk). I have placed links on there for all the maths games we have used in lessons. If possible encourage your child to use them. 3. Asking children mental maths questions when possible can also be very good support. Questions on time and money are very beneficial. The aim of mental maths is for the child to get the answer quickly they can write things down if this helps them achieve it. 4. Discuss with your child their homework or check it through with them once it is completed. Your child will, normally, bring home one piece of written homework each week. The homework should take about 30 minutes to complete and will review and revise things already covered in lessons. Each day your child will take part in a very short multiplication test on a set times table. They should prepare by practicing for the next test if it is a times table they are not confident in. Thank you very much for your support. Please do not feel that this is a must do list. Whatever support you can give will be beneficial to your child's mathematical development. If you have any questions or queries; please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank You Richard Sells |
